YOUR RELATIONS

Image
Image from Google  When your shelter was beneath the flyover And there you slept in the cold without pullover When the street was your place of home And you stood in it to roam When you were the most common labourer And you were a kid's messenger When water was your only food And nothing seemed to be good It looked like you had no relations Who would give you provisions Now you no longer have the pain of poverty And you rejoice everyday in prosperity Just then you see them coming around And their words fill the whole ground They narrate what your mum never told you How they advised your dad to believe in you They tell you their positions in your family And praise you that you act morally "My father is your uncle's cousin" "My mother gave your mother a Christmas chicken" "Your uncle is my nephew's brother" Any of these you don't even remember Instead you are full of doubt 'Cause back when there was no way out...

EAVESDROPPER

Image
Image from Google  I was in a close-door meeting Where every form of media was missing We wanted to get rid of a man's hatred So what we discussed was sacred We all agreed to keep our mouths sealed Because our point we were yet to build As I came out of the meeting dome And set on my way to go home The hater called me and said "Why do you all think I'm wicked?" "Everything you discussed in the meeting has reached me" "And every of your facts about me is fallacy" But we met where no third party could hear Is it then true that the wall has an ear? This I will always fail to believe But how the hater heard I couldn't conceive My people say the king has one ear at home and the other in the field Even to this fact my heart still fails to yield Until I knew what is called an eavesdropper Then I understood everything proper So people are the king's other ear And people are also the wall's ear (c)  Juwon Osanipin ...

ABIYAMO

Image
Truly every man calls his mother the best But my mother is really different from the rest "Abiyamo" is the name that differentiates her It is rare to find a woman like her Nine months in her womb did not make her frown She bore me and took care of me till I'm grown Such is the description of every mother But "Abiyamo" is more than a mother I'm grown and she does not stop her carings Not only for me but also my elder siblings She does anything in her might for us It might hurt her but she sees it as her cross I'm very more capable than her to endure stress But she bears it and cleans up my every mess "Abiyamo" never stops to share and care Even when mother relaxes and stops being there Now you see what is found in the former Which can not be seen in the latter (c) Juwon Osanipin Excerpt from my book, LIFE (A collection of poems in facts)

SWEET CONVERSATION

Image
Image from Google  He said, "Seek My face" I said, "Give me the grace" He said, "Ask and you shall receive" I said, "Help me to believe" He said, "Pray and I will hear" I said, "Just be forever near" He said, "Just call unto Me" I said, "My sins won't let me" He said, "Quit your sins" I said, "Save me from sinful scenes" He said, "Only let your faith be firm" I said, "My faith let not Satan confirm" He said, "Do you think he confirms your faith for no reason?" I said, "I know every temptation teaches me a lesson" He said, "The more reason why your faith should be stronger" Then I had nothing more to utter He always gets my back So I believe I will not lack (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, LIFE (A collection of poems in facts)

A PLACE OF NO PEACE

Image
Image from Google  In a place of no peace Cheating and terrors increase In a place of no peace No soul is at ease In a place of no peace Godliness and contentment decrease In a place of no peace Man defiles his niece In a place of no peace Leaders do not obey the terms of lease In a place of no peace All the arms of government tease In a place of no peace Hatred and corruption do not cease In a place of no peace Workers take the smallest piece In a place of no peace People have a common disease In a place of no peace Even birds stop living on trees In a place of no peace The boss never sees In a place of no peace If the boss ever sees In a place of no peace The boss never agrees In a place of no peace We have all these (c)  Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, LIFE (A collection of poems in facts)

SONG OF THE HYPOCRITE

Image
Image from Google  "I help the poor in the street I set the helpless on his feet I give elders more than due respect I give them everything they expect I work more than everyone else In obedience, I do no less Before the boss calls, I answer When furious, I cool his temper When he sees me, he says "I'm impressed" I don't ever make people depressed A bird usually rests in its nest But my good attitude won't let me rest Everyone calls me the responsible And indeed I am more than capable " This is the song of the hypocrite But in his privacy, he does the opposite (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, LIFE (A collection of poems in facts)

DEATH

Image
Image from Google  It comes to the infants and the aged And to the wealthy and to the wretched It comes to both male and female Either weak or even hale It removes leaders from where they sit And even followers cannot escape it It comes to the ones who are great And negotiation with the less, it doesn't create It comes when people do not expect It is death and it has no respect And now I do not seem to understand Why some people hold the world in the hand Have they believed in a lie? That they will live and not die? They hold the world in the chest 'Cause they ride on life's crest They think their position of authority is permanent And others they begin to torment Forgetting that death can come at any time And you no one can arrest it for any crime (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, LIFE (A collection of poems in facts)

THE MAN WHO IS ALL-KNOWING

Image
Image from Google  Has knowledge told you where the sea springs forth? Why does the sun not rise from the north? Who dug channels for the rain that is falling? Where is the man who is all-knowing? What do you think is the source of darkness? Why can none stay in the sun's fortress? By what source of power is the sun shining? Where is the man who is all-knowing? Who marked boundary for the waves of the sea? Why do waves retreat at the boundary? Why do stars run from the sun in the morning? Where is the man who is all-knowing? Who made the plain way for the thunderstorm? How do the mountains and pebbles form? Who set the earth on its axis rotating? Where is the man who is all-knowing? I call on every people great and small To help find the man who knows it all When he's found maybe then I will stop asking For any man who is all-knowing (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book "LIFE", (A collection of poems in facts)

ICHABOD

Image
Image from Google  Ichabod is not funny It means departed glory A woman was in child labour That moment when woman hates her blood odour The moment when she is in the blues Came to her some bad news First that her father-in-law was dead Her husband should reign in his stead But her husband and his only brother Died in the battle in one way or another Still in the child labour of course Another news made the matter worse Before I tell you let me pray You will never receive bad news in any way The Ark, the symbol of their security With the Ark they had every audacity To fight any battle and win As long as they were not in sin Alas the Ark was captured! Their glory was fractured The Ark was called the Ark of God As she died she begot what she called Ichabod (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

LIE AND TRUTH

Image
Image from Google  Extremely powerful is Lie It makes the innocent cry It gives harmony to the hypocrite And makes the upright a counterfeit It is the motor of every delusion It gives a bad politician his ambition To the swindler it gives insight It is the murderer's foresight It gives the lazy some hints His excuses are under its tints The thief dines in its house It protects the unfaithful spouse The bell of conspiracy it rings It gives the gossip wings To move faster than the speed of light Yet there is something of swifter flight It waits many years in silence Lie does not repent and hence It takes its flight in just one day And overtakes Lie on the way Truth is bitter to the victims of Lie But it's extremely more powerful than Lie (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

SISTER MODEST

Image
Image from Google  In the house where she lived A ghetto where theft was killed It was'nt funny on that day But prior to it was a hearsay That a valuable item was missing And Sister Modest was cursing "Whoever the thief might be Evil will his or her eyes see" But the victim of the theft was restless So he brought a wizard who was merciless The wizard looked scary The people to worry He ran in the ghetto up and down Screaming with an obvious frown He struck his staff to the ground Looking at everyone around He declared ghastly sickness on the thief Unless he or she returned it to the ghetto chief So on everyone the chief set to watch Meanwhile Sister Modest stopped coming to church I asked her lover if she was fine He cheerfully replied she was fine But the pastor and I visited though And there we heard her agony from her window We entered and her tears could wind a turbine She was in agony and indeed she was fine Since then theft died i...

OH! BUT WHY?

Image
Image from Google  Who in this life can I put my trust in? I told my best friend to help scratch my back And what he had in his hand was a pin So what other can I do than pack? Oh! But why? Who on earth can really be trusted? I told my other friend to blow fresh air in my eyes And what came out of his mouth was unexpected It was the breeze of peppery rice Oh! But why? Can you really hang your hope on anyone? I told my closest friend the secret of my life And then I discovered the real habit he had won He was the broadcaster of every strife Oh! But why? Now I see my heart closer to me than any friend And in my heart is Someone who never fails He knows all from the beginning to the end Yet I chose to trust in friends' tales Oh! But why? Shouldn't I had put my trust in the Almighty? The One who readily cares for my problem? Now I trust in His awe full of divine beauty And His glory now becomes my emblem Don't ask why! CHILDREN HANDLING

Image
Image from Google  When I was younger, nothing seemed rare So I really did not care I had nothing to fear For all I needed was near Even when no one was there Nothing was left bare When my words were a spear Mum would squeeze my ear Whenever I was unfair She corrected me with just a glare But children of today pose to scare They do what I did not dare Imagine what they wear Imagine the styles of their hair At ten, they drink beer And yet, their parents cheer Because to their parents they are dear But I want you to get something here Children deserve a lot of care Because they are not easy to bear But reprimand is part of care And this, some parents never spare But if it is too much to bear "They are wicked!" Their children declare And if discipline, parents totally spare "These children are spoilt" The people declare So moderate and balanced care With this, is nothing to compare (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, ...

MONEY

Image
Image from Google  At dawn people awake from sleep That's when sleep is always deep Man kills his own sister Woman kills her own brother Father beheads his own child Mother opens her legs for her boss feeling wild Clerics dine with the devil Good people become evil Children hawk in the cold Human parts are sold On the street criminals flood Guys drink human blood The saint now is a thief The sick has no relief Loyalist are now triky All because of money Money Money O Money Why do you hold man's key? Why do you shout on top of your voice That when you are not around he should not rejoice? Why do you hide yourself from man? You insist he waits for you to lift the ban Do you know the meaning of what you do? People commit evil because of you Anyway the Books have said it all That those who love you might fall And many will love you like a friend When the world is close to its end (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A ...

THE ELDERS OF MY LAND

Image
Image from Google  They are difficult for a stranger to understand The elders of my land When they speak, you don't speak It is unethical to the peak You don't sit and watch them stand It is against the culture of the land You don't stand where they sit You won't even try it When you are wrong, you apologise When they are wrong, you still apologise So I asked my father He himself being an elder How these ethics are so superb Then he replied with a proverb: "If you know how to wash your hands well You will eat with elders as well" Do you know the meaning? It calls for reasoning If you know how to behave well You will dwell where elders dwell (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

WHO WILL SAVE NIGERIA?

Image
Image from Google  There are forces which are terrestrial There are also forces which are celestial But I only do what is essential And long to reach what is potential When I do something crucial I make it very special When I do something artificial I make it very social I try to always be confidential But now let me tell you what is sacrificial I once had a boss who was called Patricia Black and yet she claimed she came from Russia An aspiring boss was also called Cynthia She said she was from Georgia I perceived lies in Patricia So I believed Cynthia A colleague of mine is called Gloria We are both from Nigeria She reminded me of a famine once in Samaria And an astonishing surplus in the camp of Syria She said our Nigeria was that Samaria And our government the camp of Syria We really did not trust Patricia And there should be an end to our political mafia So we voted out the flag bearer of Russia And gave power to Cynthia of Georgia Because her ...

MY HALF BROTHERS

Image
Image from Google  My father has three wives The three have better lives Wa, Zo, Bia are they We live together everyday On my father's big field To make our portions yield 'Cause each wife had her own land area But unity has made everyone go anywhere . . . . But my half brothers begotten by Zo Cause us pains in our own Wa's meadow They spoil our land produce Wa's speech they induce And when any of my blood brothers makes a frown Their weapons bring him down They once caused trouble in Wa's own room My blood brothers responded and there was fire boom And the field Chief Guard Who was experienced in this regard Very brilliant in the course of protection If not, he won't had been in that position He took my blood brothers to his custody Saying that the other party were not guilty The case was clear to the deaf and the blind That my blood brothers responded in their own kind I admit the guilt of my blood brothers But more was the ...

DUST

Image
Image from Google  They make noise wherever they go Who they are everyone must know What they do must be declared Yet what they have are never shared Like clothes they wear pomposity They Do this with high intensity Their glory people must be singing Yet they see others as nothing They say, "Do you know who I am?" I say, "I don't give a damn" But there is one thing that I know And this I will always show That the One who promotes The same is He who demotes I may not know who you are But I know what you are You are nothing but dust In whom I should not trust (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

THE IGNORANT AND HIS FRIENDS

Image
Image from Google  I ask, "Who is your friend?" He says, "The list has no end We eat and drink together Always in the sweetest weather They do not go to any event without me They show people my identity All our moments are full of fun And all my enemies just have to run" So I ask, "Do you have an enemy?" He says, "They really hate me They speak to me many opposing words Those words are just like piercing swords They discourage me to have fun And sometimes I wish I had a gun" Now his identity is brought down And his friends have fled out of town Now he sees those he calls his enemies And they help him up with their own means The ignorant never knows who his friends is Until he finds himself in a lot of crisis (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

THE WORLD IS A PLACE OF BATTLE

Image
Image from Google  I have always been told right from cradle That my. Mouth I should always bridle That if people come to me to cuddle There are some parts with which I should not fondle That if I find myself in any saddle I should never to the people be a needle That if people put me in the middle I should light the nearest candle That if in my arms a baby is wrapped in a bundle I should not crack any funny and difficult riddle All these were said so that I would not shamble Even if for success I have to scramble But the people in the world are horrible And life itself is terrible When life makes you rumble The people make you grumble When life gives you trouble The people make it double When life makes you humble The people make you stumble The powerful ones want you to tremble If you don't, they push you to tumble They make you feel portable While you think you are durable But still a man and a woman become a couple The two pray the union does not...

THE NEEDFUL

Image
Image from Google  Before I enter the Mosque I do ablution Please it is not at all an illusion In the Church I do baptism Please save the criticism And be eager to know what is true And know it now that it is due A heart full of evil has a cure And water cannot wash it so pure Water washes the outside And what matters to God is the inside A clean body whose heart is evil Surely that's the abode of the devil How on earth do I know it? Devil always wraps himself with something neat So what does God want from you? That which He wants you to do Fear Him not by doctrine but by heart And it is not too late for you to start If you do this and not otherwise The two Books say you will be in Paradise (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

GOD

Image
Image from Google  Who on earth is like God? Oldest and never uses a rod He speaks right in the heavens And the whole earth knows that something happens The thunderous sound of His voice Causes trembling for the big boys And makes the humble rejoice And brings to silence the evil noise I search for Him and He's undiscoverable I speak of Him and He's undescribable Yet I want to say many things about Him So I take my Bible, my Quran and my Hymn Still, nothing much is found But I find these to be abound: God is good and His mercy endures forever God is forgiving and His power endures forever (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

TWO MOUTHED FELLOW

Image
Image from Google  He cherishes you in your presence He scorns you at your absence Here his mouth is full of your praises There his mouth is full of your abuses When he speaks to you, you are elated You feel very much appreciated His sweet words carry you away You are amazed by his words all day But if I will tell you something Do not consider it as nothing Let your excitement be limited Do not think you are too respected Any difference between a cutlass and a sword? Then watch his every word A cutlass exists raw A sword is of war Two-mouthed fellow is the latter It is rare to find the former So let all these be remembered And never feel flattered (c) Juwon  Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

THE MAN IN YOU

Image
Image from Google  There were few people in the city of Ai So the chosen people eagerly drew nigh To capture and destroy Ai But Ai was never shy They attacked back with strength that was high And caused thirty-six of them to die Then the chosen ones burst into loud cry And asked God the reason why "To what this defeat did you tie"? And God gave them a befitting reply "To the sin of one of you who is a guy" When the sinner was found he did not lie But he was made to face death for aye And this gave the people a comforting sigh Again they drew near to Ai And captured it on the sly After reading this story of Ai I heard my name from the sky Then I said, "Speak for here am I" So the Voice spoke from high "There is a man in you who has to die And if not, you will not stop conceding defeat for aye" (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

THE MAN AND THE TREE

Image
Image from Google  He cuts the branches of the tree 'Cause he and the tree never agree Helpless the tree stands asking "Why do you prevent me from flourishing?" "What did I do to you?" "Did I take your ewe?" He has nothing to say--civil or uncivil And in his hand is his machete of evil Wicked for no reason Hot in every season If only he knows what he bruises If only he knows what he loses For him the tree can be a shade When by the sun heat is made His energy he uses His strength he loses 'Cause the more he cuts the branches The more the tree flourishes With fresher and broader leaves on it Better and healthier than how he leaves it Yes rain has fallen Its heart nothing to sadden 'Cause the rain will avail For the wicked not to prevail And He who causes rain Will forever reign (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

GOOD AND BAD LEADERS

Image
Image from Google  When some people get to power, they impress When some get there, they oppress And when they come to us to address Their sweet lies do no other to us than depress They deprive us of what we possess Off our body they strip our dress To our rights we have no access And crimes increase in the process Teenagers kidnap people without stress The activities of fraudsters do obsess Good men endorse criminals under duress Herdsmen behead humans and yell "Yes" Judges judge against what they profess What is even the meaning of all these mess? Yet our representatives come together for congress An avenue for them to eat money in excess They discuss trivialities and go on a recess They resume and their discussions still yield no success They go home and as they undress They present their pot bellies for whores to caress Why are these people very heartless? The answer to this question I can't even guess But we the masses are suffering I mus...

RIDDLES FROM PARABLES

Image
Image from Google  Image from Google  A child once left his father's house Calling his father a big louse He headed for a house made of broom And there he was offered a room The lords of the broom were very happy And as if they were given a speech therapy They called the child's father a guerilla Who  used  a torn umbrella And indeed his umbrella was torn So it called for nothing but scorn A man had a particular target For this he went to the market There he saw a beautiful big fat hen He said, "This hen should lay ten" He bought the hen and put it in a cage He assumed it will lay eggs irrespective of its  age The hen is the child Let your thoughts run wild Who is the hen seller? The umbrella carrier And what about the hen buyer? The man who has broom in his flyer Now the hen has left its cage The child left the room with rage And again the broom people had things to say "The beautiful hen...

THE SINNER'S CHOICE

Image
Image from Google  The first commandment You shall have no other god under the firmament The second commandment No graven image shall be found in your tent The third commandment Give God's name a hallowed treatment The fourth commandment You shall not put God's name into defilement The fifth commandment You shall give elders respect of one hundred percent The sixth commandment Upon murder, you shall not be intent The seventh commandment Lie only with your spouse of conjugal agreement The eighth commandment You shall not make theft potent The ninth commandment Truthfully about others you shall comment The tenth commandment With everything you have, you shall be content The eleventh commandment I shall ignore all these with intent (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE", (A collection of poems in facts)

PRESTIGE

Image
Image from Google  I have seen the poor honoured at his absence I have seen the rich humiliated in his presence One of them has what is called prestige The other only understands money's language But prestige is worth having Money is also worth having But prestige should not be traded for money Because prestige is far above money So I go to my land every holiday And these are what my people has to say Adeniyi says Crown has prestige Olaniyi says Wealth has prestige Owoniyi says Money has prestige Eweniyi says Herbs has prestige Akinniyi says the Brave has prestige Faniyi says the Oracle has prestige So I ask, "What is prestige?" Omoniyi says Child is prestige Do I have to produce an offspring? So  that in me prestige will spring? Let every good thing in you procreate Make the less people great This is what my people call prestige And it is an individual's heritage (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (...

MY PEOPLE, REFLECT

Image
Image from Google  If a lad comes at a time of no story Definitely he will meet what is called history There was once a legend in the days of old I was not on earth but history was told The legend advised my people to reflect But the bane till now my people do not detect For the love of money my people kill their own brethren For their selfish interest my people sell their own children They were known to be fond of education and sanctity Hence they were thought to acquire wisdom and dignity There are others whose values were thought to be lesser But they are now not only stronger but also wiser Education has stopped working for my people Their wisdom is now tested by the simple My people according to the legend are now kicked about like a ball When kicked up to a position, they are kicked again so that they fall Upon this the boss in those days failed to ponder From the people he instead put the legend asunder And today the situation is even more than worse ...

USE YOUR TALENT

Image
Image from Google  The dove rests on the tree to gaze Just then the farmer sets the bush ablaze Then the dove flies far away To the heat it does not fall prey But from place to place the burnt flakes skip They go to the hawk to gossip The hawk comes and flies around the fire In a search that is very dire Searching for a helpless rodent Who with the heat is not content It sees it and goes for it Not minding the danger of the heat Either the hawk gets its prey or not It makes attempts even when it is hot It is not afraid to take any risk As long as it remains brisk But the dove who has no brisk talent Does not wait to catch any rodent So if you must get what you desire Use your talent even in the fire (c) Juwon Osanipin An excerpt from my book, "LIFE" (A collection of poems in facts)

WHY HATE?

Image
Image from Google  In the sea are different sorts of fishes Different creatures of different species If mackerels be and not disturb dolphins And the octopus does not hold the shark's fins Is the sea not big enough for them all to swim? Even at night when the sea becomes dim? Many creatures roam about in the air Some which hover over everywhere If the vulture plucks not the owl's feather And the swallow the sparrow does not bother Do they all not have enough freedom in the space? For them to move to every lovely place? Let's go to the terrestrial habitat Abode of many beings thin and fat If the rat goes not to the lion's den And the snake does not go to the house of men Is the whole earth not wide even more than enough? For us all great and small to live thereof? But man wishes to satisfy his wants Because what man gets, the same he flaunts And other creatures too will but survive Meanwhile the sources nature does not deprive But aye! Hat...
